While it may be great for bragging rights, buying the best house on the block is not the best financial move according to real estate writer Jamie Wiebe. In a recent article for Realtor.com, she explained three reasons why homebuyers should think twice before making an offer on the best house on the block. One of the most compelling reasons she offers is that someday you will more than likely need to sell it. Even if you think you want to live in the home forever, a job transfer, divorce or loss of income could change things, leaving you with a property that’s hard to sell because it’s significantly more expensive than the surrounding homes. Wiebe asks, “If they’re going to spend that much money, why wouldn’t they buy a home in a more desirable neighborhood?”
