Denial Rates Down for Minority Borrowers

denial ratesMortgage approvals are getting slightly easier for minority borrowers according to the latest research released this week by Zillow. While mortgage approvals for Hispanic and black mortgage applicants are still not on pace with white and Asian borrowers, the denial rates have decreased for both minority groups across the nation. For black borrowers, the denial rate dropped 4.1 percent between 2013 (27.6 percent) and 2014 (23.5 percent). Hispanic borrowers experienced a 3.1 percent drop in the denial rate between 2013 (21.9 percent) and 2014 (18.8 percent). In 2014, the denial rate for white mortgage applicants dropped one percent to 9.4 percent. For Asian mortgage applicants, the denial rate dropped 1.1 percent to 12.2 percent.
