About Burr Ridge

The area of Burr Ridge was once an area occupied by Indians until an 1835 treaty relocated this population to west of the Mississippi.  After this, the farming area was sparsely populated until 1956 when the residents of the area cast votes to incorporate into a village of Harvester.  The population was less than 300 at this time.  In 1962, the village changed the name to Burr Ridge due to the numerous Burr Oak trees in the area.

By 1997, Burr Ridge became one of the top 300 wealthiest communities in the United States.  According to the most recent census, Burr Ridge is still a bedroom community of Chicago with a small town feel.  While Burr Ridge still has easy access to the metropolitan areas of Chicago, this community still has a smaller population with just over 11,000 permanent residents.  Its historical past has given the Burr Ridge community the nickname and motto of “A Very Special Place.”
