But, CNBC offers one compelling reason you should start getting your ducks in a row so you can file early. Last year’s unfortunate security breaches involving major e-filing vendors led to tax return fraud. Some taxpayers who waited until March or April to file a tax return discovered that identity thieves had already used their social security numbers to file false returns and collect a tax refund. Adam Levin, chairman and founder of the identity management company IDT911, confirms that this type of tax return fraud is growing at an alarming rate. He says, “For organized criminals, this is the crime of choice.”
