IRS & Free File Alliance Partner to Launch Free File This Week

twl_2014_dec_blog5Acknowledging its limited ability to assist taxpayers with their questions this tax season, the IRS is once again teaming up with the Free File Alliance to make free tax software available to certain taxpayers. The service, which launched on Friday, will begin transmitting electronically filed returns to the IRS today. Taxpayers who made $60,000 or less in 2014 qualify for Free File. That covers roughly 70 percent of Americans.  According to Tim Hugo, executive director of the Free File Alliance, “IRS.gov/FreeFile is the one place where taxpayers can choose from a variety of industry-leading tax software options in order to prepare and e-file their federal tax returns at absolutely no cost.” H&R Block, TurboTax and Jackson Hewitt are among the big names of providers on the list of options.
