Dionne Warwick files for Bankruptcy
Dionne Warwick filed for relief under the U. S. Bankruptcy Code in New Jersey claiming only $25,500 in assets but nearly $11 million in debts. Almost all of the debt is tax debt owed to the Internal Revenue Service and the state of California. The tax claims are from the late 80s and 90s according to Warwick’s publicist. Airline merger approved by bankruptcy judge
The proposed merger of US Airways and American Airlines was approved by a federal bankruptcy judge this week. This paves the way for the two airlines to merge together to form the world’s largest airline. Drug company cuts jobs to avoid bankruptcy
Affymax is cutting jobs and contemplating selling itself due to financial problems created by the recall of its major product. Affymax produces the drug Omontys which is used to treat anemia in patients on dialysis. The drug was recalled causing shares of Affymax to drop over fifty percent at the beginning of this week. Lon Morris College filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy relief last year when it could no longer pay its creditors. Creditors vote on competing Chapter 11 plans
Most debtors that file for Chapter 11 relief are granted the exclusive right to file a proposed plan of reorganization for creditors to consider. In the Ahern Rentals case, a bankruptcy judge has allowed bondholders to propose a competing Chapter 11 plan for creditors to consider.
