Philip Colasuonno filed bankruptcy in an attempt to discharge almost $800,000 in restitution payments that he was ordered to pay in his criminal case. Commercial bankruptcy cases decreased in 2012
The number of companies filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy relief fell by 36% from one year ago last month. In January 2012, the number of Chapter 11 case filed was almost 750; however, last month that number was closer to 480. The number of bankruptcies filed has been dropping as the economy continues to recover. This trend is likely to continue as debtors continue to decrease their debt and the interest rates remain low. Two restaurants file bankruptcy but do not notify employees
The holding company for two national restaurant chains file for bankruptcy relief on December 28. The same day, the companies requested that the bankruptcy court allow them to only notify certain parties, mainly the major creditors, of the bankruptcy filing as notifying everyone would be costly and was not necessary.
